CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A judge is stepping in to help the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department break up a notorious north Charlotte gang.
The police department filed a lawsuit asking for an injunction to keep 20 members of the Hidden Valley Kings from hanging out with each other in public. During their arguments in court, police said they're trying to stop the gang from operating what they call a violent marijuana selling operation.
For the first time ever in North Carolina, Judge Richard Boner said he would sign that temporary order prohibiting the alleged gang members from associating with each other.
Police attorneys said it's good news for the Hidden Valley community.
"I hope it means for the folks in Hidden Valley that they can breathe a little easier, and understand people are watching, making sure they can get out in their neighborhood and enjoy it a bit more, like most people can do," said attorney Mark Newbold.
Three of the men that police say are leaders of the Hidden Valley Kings were in the courtroom denying any gang involvement.
