John Paul named WSOC-TV morning anchor

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — John Paul has been named morning anchor of "Eyewitness News Daybreak" from 4:30 to 7:00 a.m.

Paul will co-anchor the full morning of "Eyewitness News Daybreak" with anchor Stephanie Maxwell, meteorologist Keith Monday and traffic reporter Mark Taylor.

Paul will continue to anchor "Eyewitness News This Morning" on TV64 and "Eyewitness News Midday" on WSOC-TV.

"We have such a strong team in place for our morning newscasts on Channel 9 and on TV64," said Joe Pomilla, vice president and general manager for WSOC-TV and WAXN-TV. "This team is passionate and focused about getting viewers the information and weather they need every morning."

Paul joined Channel 9 Eyewitness News in July as anchor and reporter. He recently traveled to Philadelphia to cover the pope's visit to the United States.

"John's new role in the morning is an exciting addition to the in-depth, investigative stories he delivers that impact our viewers throughout the Charlotte area," News Director Julie Szulczewski said.

Before coming to Charlotte, Paul worked as the morning and noon anchor for WSOC-TV's sister station, WHIO, in Dayton, Ohio. He is a two-time Emmy Award winner for his work on the WHIO noon broadcast and a cold case murder investigation.

Paul was born outside of Chicago, but spent most of his life in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He majored in journalism at Western Michigan University.
