Jimmy Eat World celebrates 30 years with stop in Queen City

CHARLOTTE — If you’re looking for plans this weekend, don’t write yourself off yet. A popular rock band is celebrating 30 years with a stop in Charlotte.

Jimmy Eat World is playing with Manchester Orchestra on Sunday. They’re playing at the Skyla Credit Union Ampitheatre at the Music Factory near Uptown.

On Friday, Channel 9′s Joe Bruno spoke with the lead guitarist and singer, Jim Adkins, who said the band loves playing in North Carolina.

“Charlotte’s always a place that’s kind of surprised us,” Adkins said. “It’s outside of the loop that we normally did, coming up and playing shows and booking your own tours and sleeping on floors. But it’s always been a place -- the support has always been there, you know? The crowds are always awesome... I’m looking forward to it.”

Adkins said one of his favorite things about performing is when the crowd is connecting with a newer song. He said that doesn’t mean he doesn’t appreciate when the crowd gets excited about the band’s bigger hits.

Jimmy Eat World is best known for its song “The Middle.”

“I mean, that’s not to say that I don’t really love it when people are freaking out to something like ‘The Middle,’ you know,” he said. “It’s all awesome.”
