ROCK HILL, S.C. — The Rock Hill Police Department said the burglars cut a hole in the nail salon to break into the jewelry store next door Sunday morning.

Channel 9′s Ken Lemon spoke with the daughter of the owner of Norman Hege Jewelers, who said the thieves didn’t make off with much.

Police said the back door of B & K Nails on Herlong Avenue was pried open. The burglars cut a hole in the drywall to get to the jewelry store, which caused an alarm to be activated.

Thieves got away with about $700 worth of jewelry because the expensive merchandise was in a safe, said Kristin Hege Sandler, the owner’s daughter.

Sandler said the burglary was disheartening and very frustrating to deal with.

“It does kind of make my heart hurt that somebody’s that desperate that they can’t think of any other way to do things,” Sandler said.

She said the damage to the store would cost more to repair than the items that were taken.

The burglar not only took some charms, they took a sense of security.

“More vigilant now,” Sadler said. “Everybody that comes through the door, I try to look at them.”

Investigators are going through security video in hopes of getting a clear image of the burglar.
