CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A decades-old tradition helped get many in Charlotte into the holiday spirit at the annual Christmas Vespers service at Johnson C. Smith University.
The choir has been preparing for the performance since August.
“It’s a lot of hard work, a lot of dedication,” said Kaniaya Coleman, with the Johnson C. Smith choir. “Everybody is so talented in choir, so I’m excited to show everybody what we’ve been working on.”
Alumni who were in the choir during their time at JCSU were invited to sing at the service, an honor they say speaks to the traditions of the university.
“In addition to simply giving back, and in addition to supporting it, we get to relive the majesty of being a member of the university choir during this Christmas Vespers service,” alumnus Craig Bell said.
The Christmas Vespers service is one of seven annual events at JCSU. The entire community was invited for the free performance.
