INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. — An Indian Trail man and honored veteran who stormed the beaches of Normandy during World War II and was awarded the French Legion of Merit has died.

Pvt. James Crump fought from Normandy all the way through the Battle of the Bulge.
Earlier this year, he was inducted into the North Carolina Veterans Hall of Fame.
Plans are in the works for a full public military funeral to honor Crump and his legacy.
