CHARLOTTE — Paul Verica’s Orto will close after service on Dec. 11.

The James Beard-nominated chef opened that Italian restaurant in February. It’s in the Novel NoDa development on 36th Street. It’s been an uphill battle since then with ongoing pandemic pressure, staffing shortages and supply-chain issues.

Verica says he reached the realization about a month ago that the restaurant wasn’t sustainable.

“We did everything we could to try and make Orto work. We just had a lot working against us,” Verica says. “It’s just hard to come to terms with.”

He talked with CBJ about the difficult decision to close. Read the full story here.
