CHARLOTTE — Angie Cuomo and her husband switched to Spectrum Mobile for phone service.
“It was only $90 for unlimited for both of us, for $90,” Cuomo said.
She said Spectrum sent them a new phone.
“We got the phone and, I kid you not, it worked for three hours,” Cuomo said.
She said the company told her to return the phone and get a new one, so she did.
Cuomo paid for the new phone and waited for a $149 refund for the first one.
"So, I kept getting a runaround about, ‘When was I getting my money?’ Cuomo said.
She said a customer service representative said, “You’re getting your money. Everything’s fine. Everything is fine.”
Eventually Spectrum told her the phone Cuomo returned was damaged. Cuomo was told she would not get a refund and would have to pay a $50 restocking fee.
“Now, I’m out all this money,” she said.

Cuomo emailed Action 9′s Jason Stoogenke, who contacted Spectrum about her complaint.
The company did not explain what happened but apologized to Cuomo, refunded her money and dropped the restocking fee.
“I feel terrific,” Cuomo told Stoogenke. “Thank you. We appreciate it. I would have gotten nothing if I didn’t send this to you.”
Action 9 advice:
- Keep good records
- Be persistent
- Try to get your refund as soon as you return the phone (If you can. You may not be able to.)
