CHARLOTTE — An 11-year-old boy is doing well after he was shot in the head while playing with his brother on their apartment balcony on Sept. 21.

Carlos Munoz’s 5-year-old brother, Jonathan Munoz, was also shot by gunfire that came from behind the apartment building on Amity Pointe Road in east Charlotte.

Reporter Mark Becker spoke with Carlos and his mother Sandra Munoz Tuesday.

“I don’t know if the bullet came from here, or if it came from the back side,” Carlos told Becker.

Carlos said that all he remembers is that he and his brother were playing on the balcony with their pet rabbit. He said he never even heard the gunshots.

“I just remember waking up over there filled with blood on my hands,” Carlos said.

Jonathan was so worried about his older brother, Carlos, that he didn’t realize that a bullet had grazed him.

“It hurt here when I got shot,” Jonathan said.

Carlos spent three nights in the hospital, and now, the family is back home together.

Carlos helped his younger brother with his homework Tuesday as their mother watched.

Sandra Munoz was at work when her sons were shot. She said she will never forget her husband’s frantic call to her – news no mother wants to hear.

Jatarius Jones, 20, was charged with the shooting. Police said his electronic monitor put him at the scene.
