Commissioners voted in favor of the proposal after a survey found 70 percent of employees supported it.

Iredell County leaders started talking about whether county employees should be allowed to carry weapons after the 2015 mass shooting in San Bernardino, California. Fourteen people were killed and 22 were injured when a county health inspector opened fire during an employee party.
County employees must follow several requirements in order to carry their guns at work, including contacting human resources and completing an annual training session provided by the county.
Firearms will still be banned at schools across the county.
