STATESVILLE, N.C. — An Iredell County deputy was hurt after an impaired driver crashed into his patrol car on Interstate 77 Monday night, troopers said.
North Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the scene at around 9:30 p.m. on I-77 near Tomlin Mill Road.
According to investigators, a car was heading north, behind the Iredell County patrol car, when the driver lost control while speeding. The car then went off the road to the right, went back onto the travel lanes and then collided with the passenger side of the patrol car.

The deputy, Philip Henshaw, was taken to a hospital in Statesville with non-life-threatening injuries. Troopers said the deputy has since been released.
Officials said the driver of the car, Charles Stanley, 33, had minor injuries. He was arrested and charged with driving while impaired, reckless driving, and failing to maintain lane control. Authorities believe impairment contributed to the crash.
