CHARLOTTE — Firefighters are working to figure out how a fire started at a house on the vacant property of a nursing home in north Charlotte.
According to Captain Jackie Gilmore with the Charlotte Fire Department, crews arrived around 5 a.m. Tuesday to see flames coming through the roof of a home on Montana Drive. Gilmore said the home, called a caretaker’s home, is on the property of a vacant nursing home -- Carolina Assisted Living. The caretaker’s home was also empty.
Gilmore said it took crews 15 minutes to get the fire under control. No one was hurt, he confirmed.
The estimated cost of damage is $155,000.
Investigators are evaluating where the fire started and what caused it.
Montana Drive to Beatties Ford Road was closed while the fire department investigated.
