Inside the Charlotte Hornets' front-office reshuffling

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Hornets are revamping the business side of the NBA franchise through a series of internal promotions. Changes include creating a chief revenue officer role and broader responsibilities for the former heads of marketing and partnerships.

All of the moves go into effect immediately. The changes resulted from the departure this month of chief operating officer Pete Guelli, who spent 10 years with the Hornets. Guelli left to become chief commercial officer with the NFL’s New York Giants. His last day was May 10.

“Rather than going out and searching for a replacement for Pete, what we wanted to do was be very deliberate and strategic in making this decision and first look internally at some very talented senior executives that have been with us for a while,” Hornets president and vice chairman Fred Whitfield told CBJ Monday. “To be able to better utilize and maximize the skill sets of people that are already part of our team and give them an opportunity to grow what they do.”
