Fire crews were called just after 2 a.m. to the home on Scaleybark Court in Mount Holly, off Old Hickory Grove Road.

When they arrived, they saw intense flames shooting from the roof of the house.

Officials said nobody was inside at the time of the fire, and Channel 9 saw the homeowners arrive at the scene around 5 a.m.

The family of six who lived at the home were out of town at the time of the fire. The couple who lived there were recently married. The woman said her wedding dress was inside and she hopes she will be able to find it.

The family was visibly upset and want to know how the fire started.

A neighbor who lives with his brother two doors down told Channel 9 he woke up to the glow of the fire and rushed to the home to make sure nobody was inside.

"We rushed outside and we were in disbelief, the fire was humongous," neighbor Benjamin Vargas said.

He said he also banged on the door of the home next door to alert those neighbors because embers were falling onto that house.

"The fire was rather intense and the heat was rather intense, but the embers were falling on my neighbor's house. Banging as hard as I could on their door, rang their door in an event to evacuate them," neighbor Isaac Vargas said.

Neighbor Anita Younger said she was grateful for Benjamin and Isaac's help.

"I thank them so much for waking us up because you know some sparks could have hit our house, some of the houses around here," Younger said.

Nobody was hurt, and the fire was under control just before 5 a.m. There is extensive damage to the home, and Channel 9 could see the roof had partially collapsed.

The Red Cross and several neighbors offered to help the family, who they say will need more support in the long run.

"I think it's good that we as a community would come together in a time like this," neighbor Kristen Rutledge said.
