CHARLOTTE — It may be hard to believe, but people can start voting in person for this fall’s general election.
In-person early voting officially kicks off in North Carolina on Thursday, Oct. 20. In South Carolina, the polls will open a few days later on Monday, Oct. 24.

Voters will have until Saturday, Nov. 5 to cast their ballot early at any open location in their county.

As early voting gets underway, the North Carolina State Board of Elections is warning against harassment, intimidation and interference at the polls.

Election officials issued a memo directing local officials on how to maintain order at voting sites.

A 50-foot buffer zone is required outside all polling places to ensure all people can freely vote in peace. It’s a crime to interfere with a voter inside the area or with an official conducting an election.
