CHARLOTTE — Something cool is coming to Truist Field this week. For the first time, the Charlotte Knights will host ice hockey on the ballpark’s newly installed, regulation-sized ice rink in the outfield.
Up first is the Charlotte Rush, a Tier III junior hockey program in the United States Premier Hockey League, who will host the Carolina Junior Hurricanes on Friday.
The action will begin at 4:30 p.m., with the Charlotte Rush Elite team taking on the Carolina Junior Hurricanes Elite team. In the second game of the night, the Charlotte Rush Premier team will play the Carolina Junior Hurricanes Premier team, starting at 7:30 p.m.
Only one ticket per person is needed for entry to both games on Friday night. Gates open at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
On Saturday, the UNC Charlotte club ice hockey team will play the Wake Forest University club team at 7 p.m. Both teams play in the Atlantic Coast Collegiate Hockey League. Gates open at 6 p.m. on Saturday night.
General admission tickets for the games are on sale now and can be purchased at charlotteknights.com. Tickets cost $20 for adults and $12 for children ages 18 and younger. Food and drinks will also be available for purchase at each of these games.
The ice rink will be open to the public during the annual Light the Knights Festival, which begins Nov. 23 and continues through Jan. 6. The event features a walk through holiday experience filled with thousands of lights, festive trees, holiday displays, and a six-lane snow tubing hill.
