Police said they were initially notified about the dog on the back of a Jeep on Aug. 10 through a social media message.
They said since the notification wasn’t through dispatch, an officer did not immediately respond to the area and the vehicle wasn’t located.
On Monday, police said they were called about the same vehicle traveling on a road in Huntersville with the same dog tethered to the rear cargo carrier.
Officers responded to the area, but, again, they were unable to find the Jeep.
They said the driver of the vehicle was identified and so was the person’s address. Officers learned the driver no longer lives at the listed residence.
After obtaining a valid phone number for the driver, officers said several attempts to have the person report to the police department for an interview were unsuccessful.
The Huntersville Police Department’s Animal Control Officer obtained a criminal summons to be served for Conveying Animals in a Cruel Manner from a Mecklenburg County Magistrate.
Police are asking anyone who knows where the vehicle is to contact Animal Control Officer McCutcheon of the Huntersville Police Department at (704) 464-5400 or North Mecklenburg CrimeStoppers at (704) 896-7867.
