HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — A Huntersville neighborhood is on alert as police are searching for a masked man.

Noelle and Carlton Burton, along with their 4-year-old daughter, woke up Thursday morning to find surveillance footage with an image of someone attempting to break into their home on Cadgwith Cove Drive near Northstone Country Club around 2:30 a.m.

“To see that person walking towards our house was, I can't explain it. I was really shaken up,” Noelle Burton said.

Police said the masked man could be connected to other crimes in the neighborhood.

Their car doors were locked and nothing was taken from their home, but blocks away, there were three police reports of car break-ins on the same day.

“He just walked straight towards the camera,” Noelle Burton said. “It looks like he tried to open the door on the side of our house and then he walks to my husband's car."

Cash, credit cards and a stun gun were reported stolen in the community.

"It was very unnerving how somebody could do that and be that calm,” Carlton Burton said.

The Burtons say they are going to take extra precautions to protect their family.

“Now, we're going to ramp up security. We're getting motion lights,” Noelle Burton said.
