HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — A Huntersville plastic surgeon was reprimanded by the North Carolina Medical Board after it says the doctor provided substandard care.

On June 7, the board said Dr. Briggs Cook Jr. could no longer “perform or supervise any procedure or surgery in an office based setting that requires the administration of anesthesia resulting in sedation.”

Cook owns and operates Pure Facial Plastic Surgery. Records show he’s been practicing in the area since 2001.

State documents claim Cook failed to provide proper anesthesia, administering dosages that were potentially dangerous.

The documents said a patient died after a surgery on June 16, 2016 and Cook completed the death certificate, listing natural causes and cardiac arrest as the cause of death. The documents said there are many potential causes for that patient’s death and Cook should have requested an autopsy.

The police report from the 2016 death from Huntersville Police shows the case was closed in 2017.

Channel 9 went to Cook's office Friday but was told he was in surgery. We also asked the state's chief medical examiner for an explanation but haven't heard back.

The North Carolina Medical Board did not revoke Cook's license, but issued a formal reprimand.
