Former Chief Cleveland Spruill announced he was resigning in December.

Channel 9 submitted a records request after that and found there were big concerns from officers.

They talked about low morale, a lack of communication and not enough tools to do their jobs.

Town leaders said, however, that is not why the chief resigned, but It’s something the new police chief is already addressing.

Chief Bence Hoyle has been serving as interim chief all year.

He said he met one-on-one with officers and went out on every shift to see what they experience.

Hoyle was most recently the police chief in Cornelius.
