Huntersville developer unveils revised, renamed Lagoona Bay project

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — The Huntersville Lagoona Bay project is getting a new look and a new name.

The developer, Jake Palilo, announced the update in the Huntersville Politics group on Facebook and the project’s new name: Waterside.

The new proposed project will have several man-made ponds and mini lakes used for storm detention and common area irrigation. Waterside will also feature ‘Waterside Village, a mixed-use area with retail, restaurants, and condos.

Lagoona Bay Beach Club remains part of the new Waterside proposal in the south section of the development, with a lagoon covering 8 acres.

Just like the Lagoona Bay development proposal, the Waterside plan will cover 263 acres on both sides of Sam Furr Road. The north portion of the development will have 90 single-family detached cottage homes, which will replace the townhomes from the Lagoona Bay Plan. The apartments have been brought down to three-story buildings and 300 luxury units from 320 units in some four-story buildings.

The Waterside Village had the biggest redesign out of any section of the development; the proposed hotel, convention center, and 212 condos have been removed. Palilo also said the seven free-standing retail and restaurant buildings will not have any living options above.

Palilo says he will be asking the Town Staff for a 60-day delay to look over all of the changes before presenting the revised proposal to the planning board. His goal is to get approval from the planning board in August and a decision from the Town Board in September.
