A crowd of boats packed into Charleston Harbor for a parade. Organizers told local news outlets they planned it online and more than 700 people showed up.
They said the Coast Guard approved their parade route, but crowds were not limited to the water. Hundreds of people lined the battery to get a glimpse of the parade.
Boaters took part in events like this along the East Coast, but it did make some people uneasy.
“While they’re having a bag up time on the water in their boats, there are elderly people within 300 feet of where we’re standing trapped in their homes knowing if they contract this disease, they’re likely to die,” resident William Hamilton said.
The Coast Guard did respond to one boat taking on water, but overall police did not report any problems with the event.
