YORK COUNTY, S.C. — A Rock Hill mother and her daughter now have a safe and affordable place to live.
Channel 9 was there Sunday as Habitat for Humanity York County dedicated a new home to Shakeedra Stevenson.
She has been in the program since 2018. Construction on her home had to stop for a short time because of the pandemic, but now it’s ready for her and her daughter to move in.

“This is a major step in my life. Of course this is my first time becoming a homeowner, but I’m also the first person out of my immediate family to become a homeowner, so this is a huge accomplishment for me,” she said.
Stevenson’s home was built with the help of donations from places like Wells Fargo and several local churches.
“I hope that when KiKi walks into her house that she, when she looks around, she knows that any goal that she wants to accomplish, she’s able to do that, and the four walls of her home are a manifestation of her own internal strength,” said Stefanie Barnett, director of program operations for Habitat for Humanity York County.
