How this developer hopes to create $130M gateway in Gastonia

GASTONIA, N.C. — Kent Olson believes his planned $130 million Northglenn project will serve as the northern gateway to the redevelopment of downtown Gastonia.

Olson, a principal at Development Solutions Group of Charlotte, said the two-part project, which covers 58 acres north of the U.S. Highway 321 interchange with Interstate 85, will also help revive the Highland area of Gaston County.

“We’re extremely excited about Northglenn,” Olson said. “It will be a beachhead on the northern end (of Gastonia).”

Olson believes Northglenn will become an oasis at the county’s busiest interchanges that handle up to 110,000 vehicles a day.

“People being able to live in the residences and walk to shopping and dinner and walk their dogs on the greenway and not have to get in their car,” he said of Northglenn’s advantages.
