CHARLOTTE — Recent and upcoming football games run by the Charlotte Sports Foundation will generate millions of dollars for the participating schools, according to public records and financial disclosures reviewed by CBJ.
In November, the sports foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to spurring tourism spending through sporting events, unveiled plans for early season college games in 2026 and 2032 — the annual matchup known as the Duke’s Mayo Classic.
Contracts provided to CBJ by the participating universities — Virginia and West Virginia — show that each school will receive a minimum of $2 million or 45% of net revenue, whichever is greater. Virginia and West Virginia will play in both the 2026 and 2032 games here.
All the football games scheduled by the sports foundation have been or will be played at 74,000-capacity Bank of America Stadium.
