WASHINGTON, D.C. — The investigation into the District 9 congressional race is headed to Washington.

Politico reports that House Democrats are preparing to launch their own investigations into the election that could pave the way for a new election in the district even if a court orders the board of elections to certify Mark Harris the winner.

Any House member could object and block seating Harris, triggering an investigation.

The House Administration Committee has the authority to call for another election.

Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings told Politico he could begin requesting documents like paychecks or agreements between Harris’ campaign and McCrae Dowless this month.

Channel 9 has reported Dowless has been at the center of the state investigation into election fraud.

Cummings says he could push Dowless to testify in Washington.

He cautions they have to allow the state to provide due process.

On Twitter, Dallas Woodhouse, the executive director of the North Carolina Republican Party, warned against blocking Harris from the election.

He said it would cause members of Congress on both sides of the aisle trouble for years to come.

Woodhouse also said he's confident Harris will be certified.

Currently, more than 780,000 people living in the district are not represented in Washington.

The state elections board has refused to certify Harris as the winner.

A hearing set for next week was scrapped because currently there's no board authorized to subpoena witnesses and hold hearings.
