CORNELIUS, N.C. — The 18-year-old student allegedly behind the latest bomb threat at Hough High School in Cornelius will stay in jail at least for now.
Bronco Villafranca made his first court appearance Tuesday via video link from the jail.
The District Court judge told him that his charge -- using a fake bomb to make a threat -- is a felony so she could not reduce his bond which remains at $25,000.
Villafranca's parents told the judge that he had never been in trouble before, and that this is very unlike their son.
A 14-year-old is also charged as a juvenile in the bomb scare at Hough High on Monday and he is in a juvenile jail until his first court appearance later in the week.
Meanwhile students and staff at Hough High had to deal with another interruption on Tuesday when the school went on a "modified lockdown." Officials say they kept students inside and limited access to the hallways during that lockdown.
