MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — A reopening on the South Carolina coast is turning out to be not so grand for hotels, motels, rentals and campgrounds.

These businesses were allowed to reopen in Horry County, South Carolina Friday, but they are not seeing the benefits.

Some owners said they are seeing occupancy at a historic low.

In Myrtle Beach, hotels are only allowed to honor existing reservations for the next few weeks.

Tourists who could make it to the beach told our partners at WPDE, there is not much to do.

“Just pretty much the beach, even our resort pool is closed,” one tourist said. “I was really disappointed.”

Myrtle Beach’s City Council said hotels can start taking new reservations starting May 15. Some decided to stay closed until then.
