Police identify shooting victim who died after showing up at hospital

Police investigate along Avalon Avenue in northwest Charlotte following a homicide July 26.

CHARLOTTE — Police are working to figure out who shot and killed an 18-year-old man who showed up at the hospital early Monday.

Around 1:30 a.m., Damontae Austin was brought to Atrium Main, where he was pronounced dead, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

Detectives said they were able to determine the shooting took place on Avalon Avenue, just off Tuckaseegee Road in northwest Charlotte.

Channel 9 crews could see crime scene technicians searching the scene along Avalon Avenue for any evidence.

No other information about the crime has been released and the investigation is active and ongoing.
