Hit-and-run leads to police chase in Mecklenburg County, police say

CHARLOTTE — A hit-and-run in south Charlotte led to a police chase that ended in Harrisburg on Tuesday morning.

The victim was hit near Four Seasons Lane and has minor injuries, MEDIC said.

It started when a license plate reader got a hit on a stolen gray Kia SUV in the Hickory Grove division.

Police said the car refused to stop after an officer tried to pull it over. The driver and passenger took off, driving into an apartment complex near Farm Pond Lane where the person was hit.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department continued to track the car on the ground and from a helicopter as it drove into Cabarrus County.

Agencies in Cabarrus County pursed the vehicle before it crashed on Main Street and Highway 49 in Harrisburg.

Two suspects were arrested at the scene and have been charged with felony hit and run, officials said.

Officials say more charges could be coming.

Chopper 9 Skyzoom saw a heavy police presence at the scene.

Tricia Ashton works at a pet store nearby and said the SUV crashed into a van, but CMPD has yet to confirm that information.

Ashton said the end of the chase was overwhelming.

“Police just started coming from everywhere,” Ashton said.

The suspect’s names are still unknown.
