LINVILLE, N.C. — Tens of thousands of people are expected to arrive at Grandfather Mountain this weekend for the Highland Games.

Since 1956, a Highland Games event has been held at Grandfather Mountain. The Games celebrate the history and culture of Scots in North Carolina.

They are known for the competitions that take place, along with Scottish-style bagpiping, drumming and of course, the attire.

The Highland Games are also a huge economic boost for the North Carolina mountains. Over the four-day weekend, hotels across the area fill up and restaurants say they see some of their best business of the year.
