High-stakes bingo hall to open in Rock Hill

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Crews will turn a strip mall into a high-stakes bingo hall over the next three months.

The Catawba Indian Nation plans to transform the former BiLo along Cherry Road in Rock Hill.

Tribal leaders said there won't be alcohol and they'll stay open until midnight.

They also plan to hire between 30-50 employees.

But some already don't like the idea.

"Well, I'm expecting there's going to be trouble," said Kenneth Zanio. "Usually attract an element of people. Quick buck."

Rock Hill had bingo until 2006, when the Catawba tribe said it couldn't compete with the South Carolina lottery anymore.
