CHARLOTTE — A Myers Park High School senior is in the running to win a national award.
The Jersey Mike’s Naismith High School Basketball Courage Award recognizes a high school basketball player who’s consistently gone above and beyond in demonstrating courage.
The local student athlete is among ten national finalists following a process that saw hundred of entries.
“A lot of the people that have been through the things that I have been through kind of like, take it, and use it as like a sad story,” Kamora Cannie said. “But I’d like to take it and that be the reason why I graduate college, or that be the reason why I become a millionaire.”
The two winners for the award will be announced on Tuesday. Each will receive a $2,000 scholarship and a donation for the same amount to their high school program.
