Hickory Police investigating weekend Waffle House shooting

HICKORY, N.C. — Police responded to reports of a shooting at a Hickory Waffle House early Sunday morning.

Officers were called to the Waffle House located at 1245 Hwy 321 NW at 2:50 a.m. on Sunday.

One person suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The victim, identified as Jessica Marie Benge, 35, was transported to the local hospital from the scene.

Benge was shot while involved in an altercation with Megan Gail Shook, 29, and others in the Waffle House parking lot, investigators said.

Hickory officers said Shook left the scene before they arrived, but she was later located by the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office.

Shook faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and inflicting serious injury.
