MURRELLS INLET, S.C. — A 12-year-old South Carolina girl proved how important it is to be the big sister when she saved her five younger siblings from a fire Monday.
Queen Bryant and her siblings were at home in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina when they smelled smoke coming from a bedroom. So, Queen jumped into action.
“I tried to grab everything I can with my little brother and my little sister in my arms,” Bryant told our news partner WPDE. “I didn’t want to lose any of my siblings because I love them all equally and I didn’t want them to get hurt.”
They all ran for the road and flagged down drivers to call 911.
Officials said they are all safe because of Bryant’s quick thinking and action. Many are calling her a hero, but she isn’t sure what to think about that.

“I’m not used to being called that so that’s kind of new to me," Bryant said. “I kind of feel proud of being called a hero.”
Investigators are still trying to determine how the fire started.
Family members said they will not be able to stay at the house, but crews with the American Red Cross have stepped up to help them.
