Here’s who can help if you run out of gas on a major interstate

CHARLOTTE — Inside a facility in north Charlotte, workers with the Incident Management Assistance Patrol monitor highway cameras and take calls from drivers in need.

It’s something they do every day, but this week they’re prepared to take more calls due to fuel shortages that have left local gas stations with no supply.

“We get our driver to go out to wherever they are. Our driver will give them one to two gallons of gas just to get them to an exit so they can get to the gas station pretty quickly,” Incident Management Engineer Derrek Burris said.
