Here's what will replace Kmart in Rock Hill as part of center's planned redevelopment

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Although the Kmart in Rock Hill is on the list of store locations to be closed by Sears Holding Corp., a Charlotte developer is way ahead of the game.

Charlotte-based Madison Capital Group bought the site and building for $6 million late last month with plans to turn the 12-acre site on Cherry Road into a mini mixed-use center.

“We’re trying to grow our presence in Charlotte” and the region around it, says Ryan Hanks, CEO and founder of Madison Capital.

The Kmart building will be converted into a Go Store It storage center.

“We’ve done several conversions in the past,” Hanks says. Other locations are new construction.
