CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte real estate firm The Spectrum Cos. will develop its upcoming South End project with an investment management company out of Atlanta.
Spectrum said Thursday it has established a partnership with an institutional client of Invesco Real Estate, which manages global investments in real estate, real estate securities, infrastructure securities and master-limited partnerships. Spectrum and Invesco are working in a joint venture on a mixed-use development on a 5-acre block in South End that’s bounded by Carson Boulevard and Tryon, Catherine and Winnifred streets.
“We’ve had a relationship with them for a long time and we’ve been talking to them off and on for the last couple of years, trying to find the right deal at the right time to team up,” said Steve McClure, chief operating officer of The Spectrum Cos.
This will be Spectrum’s first real estate project with Invesco, which has $65.3 billion in real estate assets under management.
The South End development is going through rezoning now. It is expected to include two nine-story buildings with 440,000 square feet of office and 40,000 square feet of street-level retail and, separately, a 200-room boutique hotel that will be built above the project’s parking deck as well as a large urban plaza, which McClure described as a “living room” for South End. Public art will also be part of the site.
