NORTH CAROLINA — A day after the Federal Emergency Management Agency extended its deadline for Helene assistance, the North Carolina Department of Commerce followed suit.
The new deadline to apply for Disaster Unemployment Assistance in the Tar Heel State is March 10.

The N.C. Commerce says qualifying counties include: Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Cabarrus, Caldwell, Catawba, Cherokee, Clay, Cleveland, Forsyth, Gaston, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Iredell, Jackson, Lee, Lincoln, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mecklenburg, Mitchell, Nash, Polk, Rowan, Rutherford, Stanly, Surry, Swain, Transylvania, Union, Watauga, Wilkes, Yadkin and Yancey counties.
Individual eligibility is determined on a weekly basis.
Applications can be filed online at des.nc.gov/dua.
