IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — Emergency crews had to close a busy highway in Iredell County after a serious head-on collision early Friday morning.
Police told Channel 9 that Wilkesboro Highway was blocked around 7:30 a.m. between Bruce Farm Road and Friendship Roads, just north of Statesville.
Troopers told Channel 9 that a red Chevrolet Blazer crossed the center line and struck a green Ford Fusion head-on.
Three people were taken to the hospital, including both drivers, who suffered serious injuries. A passenger in the Fusion was hurt but will be OK, troopers said.
Wet weather at the time may have played a role in the crash, officials said.
The road was closed for hours while troopers investigated the crash.
