CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Nearly two years ago, a tackle on the football field came close to paralyzing John Balas.
The Providence High School junior suffered a broken neck and fractured vertebrae.

Now, he’s fully recovered and back on the field inspiring his teammates. Head coach Wes Ward says he’s exceeding expectations, too.
“He is walking motivation,” Ward said. “The kids love him, and love that he is back out here.”
