Harding HS champion football coach Greiner leaving for Hickory Ridge

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The football coach who helped Harding High School go from 1-10 to state champions is leaving the school.

The team tweeted that Coach Sam Greiner is taking a job at Hickory Ridge High School in Harrisburg.

Coach Greiner posted a photo of his championship team from last season, calling them family and saying that leaving will never take that bond away.

Channel 9 followed Harding's Cinderella story throughout last season.

The team's quarterback, Braheam Murphy, was homeless until Greiner took him in. Murphy plans to attend West Point next year.

Greiner also found a church to help pay for new uniforms and pre-game meals for the team.

When the team won the state championship, they couldn't afford the rings, but Panthers’ linebacker Thomas Davis and other community members helped pay for them.
