A short time later, police said 19-year-old Nathaniel Isenhour showed up to Atrium Health University City Hospital with a gunshot wound. He was taken to Atrium Health’s Carolinas Medical Center, where he died Tuesday morning.

Channel 9 learned Isenhour is the son of a Cabarrus County deputy.

21-year-old Chandler Terry told Channel 9 he didn't know Isenhour, but he wants the violence to stop.

"It hurts my heart," Terry said. "I get sad over these things he’s my age a little younger."

Mount Pleasant High School Football's Twitter account posted a heartfelt message about Isenhour's death on Tuesday.

Jovana Cameron lives near the scene. She said she heard gunshots early Tuesday morning, but those were connected to another shooting.
