MATTHEWS, N.C. — A driver told police his windows were shot out Tuesday morning by another motorist along Interstate 485 in Matthews in what officials are calling a road rage incident.
The shooting happened just before noon on the outer loop near Exit 51-A.
The victim told police he was driving on I-485 between the Providence Road and East John Street exits when a man pulled up beside him and fired a handgun into the vehicle.

The victim suffered minor injuries from the broken glass, but will be OK, police said.
The suspect is believed to be between 30 and 40 years old, clean shaven with reddish hair.
He could be driving a white or silver Toyota 4Runner model (between 1996 and 2002) with a North Carolina registration plate. (See photos below)
Matthews police said they’ve had five road rages incidents so far this year --last year’s total was less than 10.
Last month, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said they’ve investigated 40 road rage attacks with 20 involving guns.
“That is a concern for me because I am always on the road driving to work and school and stuff and I feel like everyone is in a rush more -- take a second and we are all trying to get to somewhere,” driver Cameron Mulkey said.
In another incident, two motorcyclists were shot and killed and a third was wounded Monday as they rode on a North Carolina highway, the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office said.
