Guinness: Largest cat lives in SC

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C — The new edition of "Guinness World Records" says the largest cat in the world lives in South Carolina.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports the cat is a liger named Hercules weighing 922 pounds and living at the Myrtle Beach Safari wildlife preserve. A liger is a cross between a lion and a tiger.

Guinness spokeswoman Sara Wilcox says Hercules is included in the 2014 listing of the world records book being published Thursday.

Hercules is almost 11 feet long and stands about four feet high.

The safari site is also known as TIGERS - The Institute of Greatly Endangered and Rare Species - and offers tours by reservation.
