The coveted award is the city’s highest honor, given to a person or people who promote racial equality, social justice and community service.
The Rev. Ben Boswell, senior minister at Myers Park Baptist Church, said he was humbled to receive the honor.

“One of my primary tasks would be to educate congregation about challenges facing the Black community in Charlotte,” Boswell said. “But also, to look at ourselves in the mirror and understand what we, as white people, to say what is our responsibility to do for the cause of racial justice in our city.”
