“I don’t know. The grace of God, the grace of God,” Brenton Floyd said. “That’s all I can say.”
Floyd picked up a fare Sunday in University City on Super Bowl Sunday.
"I picked up a young man and a young female. They got into the car. The female was behind me. He was the passenger in the rear," Floyd said.
He was at the intersection of East W.T. Harris Boulevard and Old Concord Road when he heard shots and glass shatter.
“As I'm sitting there waiting at the light, someone fires several shots into the vehicle, hitting the young man and hitting the female in the hand,” he said. "I turned around, and all I see is a car speeding off, and the young lady in the back, she was just screaming hysterically."
Jacquez Moore, 19, died.
Police searched for the gunman and arrested 28-year-old Trevor Powell three days later and charged him with murder.
Floyd said he still hasn’t gotten his car back.

Uber insures drivers’ vehicles, but Floyd said he had to pay a $1,000 deductible to get it fixed.
He said doesn’t have the money.
An Uber spokesperson sent Channel 9 the following statement:
"Uber maintains contingent comprehensive and collision insurance on behalf of drivers operating on the Uber app. When applicable, the coverage takes the place of the driver's own physical damage insurance and applies regardless of who is at fault, subject to a $1,000 deductible.
A driver would pay the deductible to the auto insurer, just as he/she would in connection with any deductible owed on his/her personal auto policy. But during tragic situations like this one, we work with drivers to provide support and we are working with the driver on this specific case. "
