GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — A developer seeking approvals for a notable mixed-use project in the region has fallen short in securing them.
Gastonia City Council voted on March 15 to deny a rezoning request from Southwood Realty Co. to facilitate a project called Palisades at Kendrick Crossroads. The request was rejected by council after many residents spoke in opposition to the project and the city’s planning commission recommended denial last month.
Southwood was seeking to rezone 17.5 acres at Robinwood and Kendrick roads in southeast Gastonia. City documents state the project called for the development of 194 apartments, 14 detached homes and up to 26,200 square feet of commercial space.
