GASTONIA, N.C. — Police officers armed with guns searched for a man who robbed a Gastonia dry cleaners Friday morning while two nearby schools were put on lockdown.

The lockdown has been lifted at Robinson Elementary School. It's just a block away and Hawks Nest Intermediate is just around the corner.

The clerk at Bou Cleaners on Union Road said the man entered the store at about 8 a.m. and asked for a job.

She said he told her he was in dire need of work and would do anything.

The clerk told him she couldn't hire him but that the owner would be in soon.

She said the man then reached in his pocket and pulled out something shiny that looked like a gun.

He told her he didn't want to hurt her and that everything would be fine, but he needed money.

He made her lay on the floor while he left.

"I don't want to ever experience that again, because I did fear for my life, though he was polite. I did feel like he did have the gun there and when you are afraid you don't know if someone will just react," the clerk said.

Officials have not arrested anyone in connection to the robbery.
