GASTONIA, N.C. — The family of a 20-year-old man says he was shot and killed in Gastonia while walking to a job interview.
The shooting was reported at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said. 20-year-old Tyceria Larell Alexander of Gastonia was found in the road along 12th Avenue, they said, which is next to Remedies Restaurant and Nightclub.
Alexander died at the scene, according to investigators.

12th Avenue was closed between Union Road and Anderson Street during the investigation, police said.
Alexander’s family said they last saw him when he was leaving the house for his interview at Wendy’s. His mother, Seandora Holmes, showed Channel 9′s Dave Faherty some photos of her son. She said she spoke with him before he left but found out minutes later he never made it.
“He was gunned down right before he got to the interview,” Holmes said. “It doesn’t really make sense to me. I don’t know who would do this or why.”
Alexander’s father, Charles Durham, said his son loved sports. He tied several balloons to a football and left it near where Alexander was found.
“Somebody turn themselves in,” Durham said. “I know someone seen something. Please come forward.”
Police met with family members Wednesday morning about the case. Holmes said her son told her he loved her before he left.
“I love my son deep down in my soul. And I just don’t know what to do,” she said. “I am a hurt mom who wants justice for her son -- that’s all I want.”
Violence at Remedies
On Nov. 12, 2020, six people, including two police officers, were shot at the Gastonia nightclub.
Shortly after that, the government forced the club to surrender its alcohol license. Remedies does not currently hold ABC permits, and police confirmed it shut down earlier this year.
Detectives asked any business owners and residents in the area who have surveillance systems to check their video for anything that could help identify a suspect in Tuesday’s homicide.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Gaston County at 704-861-8000.
No further information has been released.
